desanding hydrocyclones

Cyclotech Desanding Hydrocyclones are used for solids removal from produced water and oil or gas condensate streams. In produced water applications solids are typically removed to protect downstream equipment or to facilitate produced water re-injection. In crude oil or gas condensate applications they are mostly used to prevent build up of sand in separators and pipelines and to protect sensitive items such as export pumps and heat exchangers.

Due to the relative ease of separation of solids from liquid phases compared to oil-water separation, (due to relatively large particles and high differential density), there is more flexibility to adapt the size of Desanding Hydrocyclones to a particular application to achieve the most cost effective solution.

Cyclotech offers Desanding Hydrocyclones ranging from 10mm diameter, separating particles down to as low as 5 microns, up to 1000mm diameter, separating particles of around 150 microns. Interestingly, produced sand particle sizes commonly fall in the range 70 to 300 microns, although there are occasionally cases where much finer particles have been observed.

multi-cyclone system (mc-series)

In this configuration large numbers of small diameter Desanding Hydrocyclones are installed in a single vessel to achieve very high sand removal efficiency at very high flowrates. Effective separation of particles down to 5 microns is possible. This configuration is most suitable for fine particle separation, where removal of particles less than 50 microns and / or low density solids is required.

Materials of construction of the Desanding Hydrocyclone, or liner are most commonly alumina ceramic but can be hardened duplex stainless steel or 316 stainless steel. Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide is used for extremely aggressive applications.

Cyclotech supply Multi-Cyclone technology in the form of:

Liners alone
Liners and support plates
Pressure vessel housing containing liners and support plates
Full skid-mounted packages

Standard pressure vesseldesigns to common codes are available. Design pressures up to 1500# ANSI equivalent can be accommodated. The most common pressure vessel materials are carbon steel, 316L stainless steel and duplex stainless steel. More exotic options such as super duplex stainless steel, hastelloy, monel and titanium can be evaluated.

Desanding Hydrocyclone vessel diameters up to 1200mm(48") NS are available, however custom designs for larger diameter vessels can be developed.

uni-cyclone system, (uc-series)

In this configuration, larger diameter Desanding Hydrocyclones are mounted as single inserts in pressure retaining housings. Effective separation of particles ranging of 20 microns and larger is possible. These single units combine extremely high throughputs with the level of separation typically required for produced water treatment. As fabricated units, they offer a lower cost option to the multi-cyclone configuration where higher cut sizes are required.

Materials of construction of the uni-cyclone insert are most commonly hardened stainless steel, however Alumina Ceramic and Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide lined and hardened duplex stainless steel can be supplied.Cyclotech will supply

Uni-Cyclone technology in the form of:

Inserts alone
Pressure vessel housing containing insert
Full skid-mounted packages

Standard pressure vessel designs to all common codes are available. Design pressures up to 2500# ANSI equivalent can be accommodated. The most common pressure vessel materials are carbon steel, 316L stainless steel and duplex stainless steel. More exotic options such as super duplex stainless steel, hastelloy, monel and titanium can be evaluated.
